Arts and cultural organisations across Greater Bendigo are invited to participate in an internship program that will provide young and emerging arts workers with invaluable work experience in arts administration, production support, marketing, or operations.
The City of Greater Bendigo is leading the Arts Worker Internship Program and is funding four paid entry level positions in the arts and creative industries.
This program is specifically designed to create opportunities for emerging arts workers that are either recent school leavers, new graduates or young people with limited paid experience working in the arts.
Creative City Officer Mandy Field said a pilot scheme run last year received positive feedback from interns and participating organisations.
"The pilot program allowed each intern to work on a specific program within an organisation and be part of the full life cycle of a project, from production planning, project administration, project management, and outcome delivery," Mandy said.
"Not only did interns gain valuable on-the-job experience, but they had the opportunity to develop local professional networks and learn from industry peers which is invaluable in the arts.
"The program also offered participating organisations valuable project support and contributions from early career arts workers.
"For example, CreateA's production of Burnout Ballet gained a production assistant, Arena Theatre Company had the opportunity to pilot a new role. La Trobe Art Institute gained essential project management support on their professional development event Stepping Out, and the City had essential administration assistance for its Eat.Drink.Art program which involved over 40 artists at 30 local venues.
"It can be difficult to find pathways into paid work within the arts and creative industries, and the internship program recognises this by offering entry level professional experiences."
Participating organisations will be involved in the recruitment process, and the program subsidises the salary of each intern.
Expressions of interest closes at 5pm on Monday August 3, 2026.
