The Tasmanian Branch of the Pharmacy Guild has welcomed confirmation today that the reforms to interstate prescriptions passed last year by the Tasmanian parliament will be law from 16 February.
Tasmanian Branch President Joe O'Malley said the reforms would make a big difference for patients who received care from interstate clinicians.
"This is going to make life easier for Tasmanian patients, and we thank the State Government for their work to progress these reforms," said Mr O'Malley
"When these changes come into place on 16 February, patients who access care interstate will no longer need to jump through more hoops just to access medications they've been prescribed.
"This is a great outcome and community pharmacists everywhere welcome these changes."
Mr O'Malley also noted that the changes came about as part of the inquiry into the assessment and treatment of ADHD and support services in making the case for this reform.
"The work of the Inquiry was so important in achieving this outcome and we thank those who contributed to it."
Mr O'Malley emphasised the changes would be implemented in a way that was safe for patients.
"Community pharmacists are highly trained health professionals and Tasmanians can be assured medications will continue to be provided to them safely."
