Inverell Domestic Assault: Wanted Man Charged

A man who was wanted on outstanding warrants in the state's north has been charged.

About 9.30am yesterday (Tuesday 16 January 2024), officers attached to New England Police District attended a home in Inverell, following reports of a domestic-related incident.

Police were told a 23-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by a man – known to her - before he fled on foot.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before she was taken to Inverell Hospital in a stable condition.

Following inquiries, police located the man in Girle Street, Inverell, where the 26-year-old was arrested.

He was taken to Inverell Police Station and charged with,

  • contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic),
  • common assault (DV) (x2),
  • aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence,
  • destroy or damage property (DV), and
  • intentionally choke person without consent (DV).

Two outstanding arrest warrants for domestic violence-related offences were also executed.

The man was refused bail to appear at Inverell Local Court today (Wednesday 17 January 2024).
