Investigation into Highett firearms incident continues

Armed Crime Squad detectives have arrested a man following alleged firearms incident in Melbourne's southeast on Thursday, 12 October.

Investigators have been told three men were seen loitering in a carpark in Jamieson Street in Cheltenham, before they attempted to enter storage units about 1.30pm.

The men were disturbed by a resident and allegedly produced a firearm.

No shots were fired at this location and the men fled the scene in a grey vehicle.

A short time later, police received reports of a man found with a suspected gunshot injury on Dennis Street, Highett.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The grey vehicle was located on Rimmer Street, Cheltenham about 5.53pm.

A 41-year-old Cranbourne man was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

At this stage the other man remains outstanding.

Police are working to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and investigations remain ongoing.
