Investigations underway following explosion, NSW

A crime scene has been established at a home in Stanhope Gardens following a small explosion this evening, NSW Police say.

Emergency services were called Ashtead Parade about 6pm (Thursday 30 August 2018), after a manhole cover was dislodged during a suspected explosion.

Officers from Fire & Rescue NSW attended the scene; when they entered the rear of the property involved they discovered several drums.

Personnel withdrew from the property and a crime scene has been established by officers from the Quakers Hill Police Area Command.

Specialist police from the Chemical Operations Unit have been called to assist.

There have been no arrests and inquiries are continuing into the identity of those responsible.

One neighbouring property was evacuated for 30 minutes while the scene was secured. They have been allowed to return home.

There will be road closures in place for several hours while the operation continues.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
