Investigator Appointed for Goolwa Beach Collision Probe

South Australia Police (SAPOL) continues to investigate the road collision at Goolwa Beach on 17 November 2023.

Acting Commissioner Linda Williams said SAPOL's Major Crash Investigation Section (MCIS) has a team of highly professional and capable investigators. This year they have had oversight of thousands of road crashes, including those which have led to the loss of life of 103 people. In all of these investigations they have conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism and integrity.

Due to the high public interest of this investigation and the involvement of Commissioner Grant Stevens' son Charlie, an Independent Lead Investigator has been engaged to provide oversight of the MCIS investigation.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Lineham from Victoria Police will be temporarily appointed to SAPOL as a Special Constable to undertake this task. He will have control for the direction and outcome of the Investigation and facilitate any brief of evidence to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
