Investing in Alice Springs Hospital: New Multi-storey Carpark and 70 Unit Nurses Accommodation

TheTerritory Labor Government today announced it will build a multi-storey carparkat Alice Springs Hospital.

Itcomes as the tender for construction of 70 residential accommodation units forAlice Springs Hospital staff is awarded.

Theannouncements are part of the NT Governments Alice Springs Hospital Masterplanwhich identified the carpark as an essential piece of infrastructure for theAlice Springs community.

Theold Pathology and CDC building will be demolished to free up the space for thecarpark. A tender for this demolition work will be released within the comingmonth.

Localcompany, Whittaker Street Developments, was awarded the accommodation contract,which will see a new high-quality complex constructed between Todd Street andSouth Terrace, and will help attract and retain professional health staff inAlice Springs.

Theseworks will support more than 240 local jobs during construction, and thefacility will include:

  • 40 x 1 bedroom units, 20 x 2 bedrooms units and 10 x 3 bedroom units;
  • Off street parking;
  • Swimming pool;
  • Gymnasium;
  • Childrens playground;
  • An outdoor BBQ/eating area; and
  • Potential retail or other commercial space.

CentralAustralian Health Services (CAHS) will lease the units from the building ownerswith an initial lease period of 10-years, with an option to extend.

Thisfacility will play a key role in the Northern Territory Governments broadervision to revitalise Alice Springs CBD into a more vibrant and reinvigoratedspace for local and visitors to enjoy.

Workson the staff accommodation are anticipated to begin this year and completion isexpected in late 2020.
