Investing in infrastructure to continue keeping Tasmanians safe

Felix Ellis,

The Tasmanian Government is committed to supporting our hardworking and dedicated police officers to keep Tasmanian streets and communities safe.

As a result of investment by this Government, Tasmania is currently at its highest ever establishment of police officers.

Further, we are investing in police infrastructure to ensure the stations and homes of officers are pleasant places to be, as well as highly functional and fit for purpose.

Investing in infrastructure not only increases the appeal of working for Tasmania Police with new stations and homes, but it also supports our local economy.

For example, local firm Vos Construction and Joinery is developing the $3.6 million southern Special Operations Group site, which I look forward to opening in coming months.

Further, the $12 million Sorell Emergency Services Hub has used ARTAS Architects and local construction firm Fairbrother Construction and is set to open early next year.

We are also investing $7 million into the refurbishment of the Launceston Police Station, which has already been partially completed by local firm Premium Constructions.

Since 2014, we have added an extra 35 police officers to the Launceston Police Station, with four more being allocated this year.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is delivering on our plan to strengthen our economy, which means we can continue to invest more in essential services like our police force, housing, health and education.
