Country race clubs across Victoria will receive new funding to upgrade their facilities and boost the race day experience as part of the Allan Labor Government's ongoing investment in country racing.
Minister for Racing Anthony Carbines today announced more than $730,000 from the Regional Customer Facilities Program to improve racing infrastructure at 18 regional racing venues.
Thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing clubs will receive grants of up to $100,000 to deliver projects that upgrade function spaces, improve public amenities and purchase new equipment - ensuring racegoers and communities can enjoy these venues all year round.
These projects can include new or upgraded function rooms and amenities, and improved outdoor areas featuring family spaces, marquees, pergolas and decking.
Some of the projects benefitting from this round of grants include:
- The Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club which will receive $100,000 to transform its indoor family entertainment area with a new playground and interactive sensory projection system
- The Alexandra Race Club which will receive $35,000 to expand its alfresco area, doubling the space with additional shade and a new kitchen fit-out
- The Mansfield District Racing Club which will construct a new hospitality space using converted shipping containers - creating a unique venue that community groups can use for functions and events.
The regional racing industry contributes $1.17 billion to the Victorian economy each year and supports more than 9,000 full-time equivalent jobs across the state.
