MsManison will continue to push the Federal Government to invest in vitalinfrastructure in the Territory including the job-creating Ship Lift.

The Ship Liftwill stimulate the Territory economy, create local jobs and help positionDarwin as a marine maintenance and servicing hub.

Investmentinto other critical infrastructure projects like roads will also be on theagenda, and follows calls from the Reserve Bank for more federal spending toboost the economy.

TreasurerManison will also be seeking a commitment from the Federal Government onlong-term GST funding for the Territory.

Quotesfrom Treasurer Nicole Manison:

TheFederal Government must invest in the Territory particularly into projectsthat will create local jobs and provide significant economic stimulus such asthe Ship Lift project.

TheShip Lift has the potential to create hundreds of jobs in construction andcreate jobs for years to come. The NT Government is investing $100 million intothis project because its good for the Territory. Canberra must invest in itbecause its good for the nation.

TheFederal Government also needs to stick to their promise that no state orTerritory will be worse off under their new GST legislation. We have alreadyseen deep cuts to our GST of over $500million per year, more cuts would onlymean more pain for the Territory.
