Ipswich: Liberty Deprivation, Dangerous Driving Charged

Police have charged a 24-year-old man following an alleged dangerous driving and deprivation of liberty incident in the Lockyer Valley and Ipswich area yesterday 23 October.

Around 9.40am, police were called to the intersection of Cochrane Street and Maitland Street in Gatton following reports of an alleged disturbance involving a stolen 2009 Holden Commodore.

The sedan is alleged to have been stolen from a Darra address on 21 October.

About 10.30am it is alleged the same vehicle exited a service station on the Warrego Highway at Haigslea crossing over both west bound lanes of traffic before hitting a 2017 Mazda CX3 travelling eastbound causing it to be pushed into a 2013 Volkswagen Amarok and overturning.

The driver of the Mazda, a 26-year-old Hatton Vale woman received minor injuries and was taken to Ipswich Hospital.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 57-year-old Indooroopilly man was uninjured.

Police allege the driver of the Commodore then exited the vehicle and approached a 2008 Toyota Hilux before entering it when the driver was forced to accelerate away.

The man then allegedly forced the driver of the Toyota to drive to a Lobb Street address in Churchill before he exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

The driver, a 71-year-old Lockyer Waters man was uninjured.

Around 11.10am, officers from Ipswich District located the man at a Guilfoyle Street address in Churchill where he was taken into custody.

A 24-year-old man has been charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle threatening violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, deprivation of liberty, fraud and obstruct.

He is due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court today 24 October.
