Iraq-Born Man Charged With Visa, Bail Breaches

An Iraq-born man is expected to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today (22 October, 2025), charged with allegedly breaching his visa-mandated conditions.

The AFP charged the man, 50, yesterday (21 October, 2025) after locating him in Dandenong.

It will be alleged the man failed to maintain his electronic monitoring device as required.

The man was charged with:

  • Two counts of fail to comply with 070 visa condition (maintain device) contrary to section 76D of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth), which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and/or a $99,000 fine;

  • Two counts of commit an indictable offence whist on bail contrary to section 30B of the Bail Act 1977 (Vic), which carries a maximum penalty of three months' imprisonment or a $6,105 fine; and

  • Two counts of breach conditions of bail contrary to section 49F of the Summary Offences Act 1966 (Vic), which carries a maximum penalty of three months' imprisonment or a $6,105 fine.
