Orange will be showcasing its best features on Monday (August 5) as the judging of the 2020 NSW Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns begins.
A delegation of judges from the awards will be in the city and will be shown a range of activities and groups, where significant sustainability targets are being met.
Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said he hoped Orange would continue with its previous successes.
"The Orange Community has had wonderful success over recent years with the NSW Sustainable Communities Tidy Towns awards winning the Regional Award for 2016 and 2018 and going on to represent NSW at the National Awards, "Cr Kidd said.
The Orange community will be assessed in the following categories:
- Community Spirit and Inclusion Award - Orange Hospital Auxiliary
- Habitat and Wildlife Conservation Award - Ploughmans Wetland Care Group
- Schools Environmental Achievement Award - Kinross Wolaroi School TREE, (The Regional Engagement Enterprise) Program
- Heritage and Culture Award - Banjo Paterson Festival
- Heritage and Culture Award - The Old Carrington Hotel, now occupied by Live Better.
As well as being judged in these categories the assessor will be considering town pride and communication, waste and recycling, environmental conservation, community partnerships and public communication.
Orange Tidy Towns Committee Chair Cr Kevin Duffy said Orange had a strong reputation to uphold in these awards.
"It would be another feather in our cap if we pulled off another win," Cr Duffy said.
"It's a national acknowledgement for our community and its commitment to our environment."
