Is your local park former quarry?

Some of the best-known parks in and around Melbourne were once quarries. As the city and its suburbs have grown, quarries have been used to provide the building raw materials and then many of them have ended up as parks.

The Victorian Connection has more details on how quarries can make great fishing spots, cycling tracks and much more. One of the best examples of what can be achieved is the award-winning Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne. Details of this transition and many more are available through the In The New Lives of Old Quarries guide, which showcases what can be developed once quarrying ceases.
