Items linked to illicit drug supply located in backpack given to child; woman charged

A woman will face court today charged with drug and firearm offences as part of an investigation by Wetherill Park Region Enforcement Squad (RES).

In July 2019, investigators from Wetherill Park RES commenced an investigation into the supply of prohibited drugs throughout Sydney's south west.

As part of the investigation, Wetherill Park RES executed five search warrants and seized two semi-automatic pistols, ammunition, a rifle scope, three electronic control devices, pseudoephedrine, and other precursors.

Investigators have previously charged four people. They remain before the courts.

Officers from Bass Hills RES later located the 38-year-old female resident at a home on Friend Street, Merrylands, she was arrested after she allegedly attempted to jump the back fence.

Police will allege in court that before the woman was arrested, she gave a backpack to a 12-year-old boy that contained $7000 cash, which is suspected to be proceeds of crime, and two mobile phones connected to drug supply activity.

The woman was taken to Granville Police Station and charged with possess unauthorised pistol, possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm, supply prohibited drug SF Sport(x2), possess prohibited drug, deal with property proceeds of crime, owner/occupier knowingly allow use as drug premises, and owner/occupier knowingly expose child to drugs.
