JCPAA monitoring PGPA implementation

Parliament's Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit has a role in monitoring the continuing implementation of the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act).

An Independent Review into the Operation of the PGPA Act and Rule was conducted by Ms Elizabeth Alexander AM and Mr David Thodey AO, and provided to the Minister for Finance in September 2018.

The Committee will await the Government response to the recommendations of the Independent Review. Following release of the Government response, the Committee will consider any further action.

Committee Chair, Senator Dean Smith, said that, following release of the Government response, the Committee will monitor the Department of Finance's implementation of the recommendations, along with related recommendations from previous JCPAA reports.

"In particular, the Committee will be seeking an implementation plan from Finance on those recommendations that can be made available publicly," Senator Smith said.

"The Committee will also be seeking regular reports from Finance on implementation progress that can be made available publicly, and does not intend to undertake an inquiry on the matter at this stage."

The JCPAA is Parliament's joint public administration committee. It scrutinises the governance, performance and accountability of Commonwealth agencies, and has the power to inquire into all expenditure of Commonwealth money.
