Snowy Monaro Regional Council's eagerly-awaited Jindabyne Shared Trail project is still on-track for its scheduled completion date in mid-2026.

Since the last major update in March 2025, multiple works packages have either been awarded or gone out to tender while Council awaits Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permit (AHIP) approval from Heritage NSW.

Recent project milestones

  • Tyrolean mountain bike network: Contractor appointed earlier this year, now working through the design process ahead of construction getting underway
  • Tyrolean/East Jindabyne and Tyrolean/Kunama Estate trail links: Contractors appointed and ready to start work as soon as final approvals are received
  • Rainbow Drive trailhead, carpark and amenities: Tender opened for submissions in November 2025, contract to be awarded early 2026
  • Kosciuszko Road underpass and Hatchery Bay Road realignment: Council is working closely with Transport for NSW on design requirements, with tender process on-track to open January 2026

The next stage of project works will commence once Council has received the required Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permit (AHIP) from Heritage NSW.

Council estimates that the permit should be approved and received by the end of December 2025, based on the standard assessment timeframe and accounting for the time taken to respond to recent Heritage NSW information requests.

Construction can commence on the final stages of the Jindabyne Shared Trail project as soon as the AHIP is approved. Council will announce the construction schedule for the remaining work packages once the permit is received.

At this stage, the project remains on schedule and Jindabyne-area trail users should prepare for temporary closures and minor disruptions during the final project works through to mid-2026.

The Jindabyne Shared Trail project is funded by the NSW Government through Restart NSW and represents a generational investment in the Snowy Monaro's recreation infrastructure.
