Join Us for IDAHOBIT Celebration: We All Belong

We are proud to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) with two family-friendly community events celebrating inclusion, belonging and the ongoing journey toward equality.

Observed globally every 17 May, IDAHOBIT is a powerful reminder of the progress society has made, but also reminds us of the work that remains. Through continued visibility, education and allyship, we can build a Peninsula where everyone feels safe, seen and included.

We warmly welcome our community to join us at the following events:

Flag raising and morning tea

Monday 18 May, 10am at Mornington Police Station

Now in its third year, this wholesome community gathering sees the Shire join forces with Victoria Police to raise the Pride flag. It's an opportunity to connect, hear from locals and show our community's commitment to inclusion. All are welcome - no bookings required.

Storytime

Saturday 16 May, 11am at Mornington Library

Families are invited to join us for a joyful storytime session filled with stories about kindness, belonging and being proud of who you are. Perfect for curious little minds and big hearts alike, this event will be a fun and welcoming way to celebrate diversity and learn about respect. No bookings required - just come along and enjoy.

Acting Mayor Councillor Paul Pingiaro said: "The Mornington Peninsula is a truly special place to live, work and play - and through our We All Belong Strategy, we're committed to making sure it feels that way for everyone."

"This year, together with Proud 2 Play we're also hosting an invite-only event for sports clubs that explores how to create more inclusive sporting environments. Sport has the incredible ability to bring people together, and we want every person on the Mornington Peninsula to feel welcome on and off the field."
