Judicial Appointment Interest Sought for Aussie Courts

The Albanese Government is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified persons for appointment as judges of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) (Divisions 1 and 2).

The expression of interest process - which opens today - will help identify candidates with the highest commitment, qualifications and aptitude to serve as judges.

This merit-based process reflects the Albanese Government's commitment to integrity and diversity in the judiciary.

Candidates are sought who:

  • meet the legislative requirements for statutory appointment
  • have deep expertise in areas of law likely to come before the judges
  • possess exceptional organisational, decision-making and communication skills
  • are committed to serving all members of our community.

The process will be used to fill vacancies in the FCFCOA across the next 18 months, including in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Parramatta and Newcastle.

The Government encourages applications from candidates who reflect the diversity of the Australian community.
