Launceston is set to come alive in September with the official launch of the Junction Arts Festival's 2021 program today.
As the Minister for Events, I am delighted to see the return of the event in Launceston from the 1-5 September 2021.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is a strong supporter of our world-class events sector and we recognise the contribution Junction makes to the cultural, social and economic fabric of the northern Tasmanian community.
Minister for the Arts, Elise Archer said that creative showcases such as the Junction Arts Festival are integral to supporting Tasmanian artists' careers, which is more important than ever as we recover from the effects of COVID-19.
"The Tasmanian Government is a strong supporter of our cultural and creative industries, that support thousands of jobs across the State and add millions to our economy."
Attending the launch, Member for Rosevears, Jo Palmer said that the 2021 event will be another outstanding success with a mix of new works such as a Sunset Ceremony, Songs For Our Planet and Muster, as well as old favourites like The Tweed Ride.
"This year's festival will coincide with the Regional Arts Australia's Artlands Conference and we look forward to providing a warm welcome and our famous Northern Tasmanian hospitality to the hundreds of delegates.
"Congratulations go to Liz Frankham, Greg Clarke and the Junction team on the program launch and encourage everyone to support the Junction Arts Festival this spring ," Ms Palmer said.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is proud to have provided $1.25 million from 2017-2021 to enable the festival to grow, and we have started negotiations on a new multi-year funding arrangement as part of our $21.5 million election commitment to secure the future of Tasmania.
Our strong investment in the events sector has seen Tasmania recognised nationally and internationally for our home-grown festivals, like Junction, and we will ensure we continue to draw more visitors to Tasmania, spreading the benefits right across our economy.
