Junior Biosecurity Officer Resources Released

Dept of Agriculture

Students now have new ways to learn about the world of biosecurity. The Junior Biosecurity Officer (JBO) program has released a fresh set of free teaching resources for Term 2 and beyond. These resources help teachers explain how Australia's biosecurity system works and why it is so important.

The resources include interactive PowerPoint presentations and virtual excursions in addition to existing curriculum-linked lesson plans and activities. They help teachers introduce key ideas and show real life examples of how risks are found and managed. This helps students see how everyday actions can keep Australia safe.

The virtual tours take students inside working biosecurity sites. These include an International Mail Gateway Facility, International Airport and the Post-Entry Quarantine Facility. Students can then follow clear steps to see how pests and diseases are identified and stopped in their tracks.

The presentations use animated characters, sound effects and click-through activities to keep students engaged. They are easy to use and fit well into primary school lesson planning.

If you are a teacher, or know one, encourage them to add these resources to their lesson plans. They offer a simple and engaging way to teach students why protecting Australia's agriculture, environment and way of life matters.
