Just Looking Boutique has notched up 50 years of continuous business in the Darwin CBD, making it one of the Territory's longest running fashion retailers.
Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations Robyn Cahill has congratulated owner Suzie Hesketh and the Hesketh family on the milestone.
Long standing local businesses like Just Looking are central to a vibrant city centre and a Territory that is open for business.
The Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations, Robyn Cahill, has congratulated Darwin fashion institution Just Looking on 50 years of continuous business in the city centre.
Few Territory businesses reach such a milestone. Just Looking has traded in the Darwin CBD since the mid 1970s, through Cyclone Tracy, when it was one of only a handful of stores to survive the storm and reopen. Under owner Suzie Hesketh, it has dressed generations of Territorians and become one of the best-known names in Darwin retail.
Minister Cahill said the milestone was a credit to Ms Hesketh and her family.
"Fifty years in the same city centre is a remarkable innings, and it takes something special to keep a local boutique going that long in a city the size of Darwin," Minister Cahill said.
"Suzie and the Hesketh family have backed this city for half a century, through the good years and the hard ones. They have helped countless Territorians feel their best on the days that matter, and they have kept the doors open in the heart of the CBD the whole way through."
Minister Cahill said long-standing local businesses were vital to a strong economy and a lively city centre.
"Small and family businesses are the heart of the Territory economy, and a vibrant CBD depends on them," she said.
"The Territory is open for business, and stories like Just Looking's are exactly what we want to see more of. On behalf of the Government, congratulations to Suzie and the team on 50 years, and here's to what comes next."
