Wyndham City is thrilled to be hosting Josh Muir, JXSH MVIR: Forever I Live, a touring exhibition curated by Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT) as the first exhibition to be on display in the re-opened Wyndham Art Gallery.
The Wyndham Art Gallery was temporarily closed late last year due to the Wyndham Cultural Centre theatre undergoing refurbishment and maintenance works.
Wyndham Art Gallery is hosting the free exhibition from Friday 11 July to Sunday 28 September, open from 10am to 4pm from Monday to Friday and 10am to 3pm Saturday and Sunday during the exhibition dates.
Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, said: "Josh Muir's stunning exhibition JXSH MVIR: Forever I Live is the first major solo retrospective exhibition of the late Josh Muir (Born 1991) following his passing in 2022."
"It is an impressive exhibition that uses colour and geometric patterning across a range of media, including painting, digital prints on aluminium, neon, animated video works and augmented reality experiences."
The exhibition title, JXSH MVIR: Forever I Live, is taken from an artwork of the same name - Forever I Live (2015) and references the ongoing legacy that continues to live in Josh's artwork beyond life itself.
The exhibition is co-curated by Josh's partner Shanaya Sheridan, his mother Justine Berg and the curatorial team at Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT).
Muir a Yorta Yorta Yorta, Gunditjmara, and Barkindji artist, and was born and raised on Wadawurrung Country in Ballarat, Victoria.
His artworks draw on a range of themes including cultural identity, the impacts and legacies of colonisation, extending to more personal experiences of mental health, addiction, loss and grief.
The exhibition fuses contemporary art, bold colour, and cultural resilience. The artworks include references to the late artists street art practice, colourful visuals and the use of VR/AR to tell a strong and evocative narrative.
