On World Humanitarian Day, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) officially welcomes back Kristina 'KC' Concepcion as a WFP Goodwill Ambassador. Formerly WFP Philippines' National Ambassador Against Hunger, KC returns to champion universal access to school meals in the Philippines.
For her first mission as a returning WFP Goodwill Ambassador, KC will visit a school in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), where she will prepare hot, nutritious meals for schoolchildren. She will also meet with local farmers who supply fresh produce to the programme.
"With the leadership of our government partners, we have made significant strides in expanding access to school meals, and KC's support will be instrumental in sustaining this momentum," said Regis Chapman, WFP Philippines Representative and Country Director. "We look forward to collaborating with KC to amplify the voices of the communities we work with and highlighting the efforts to strengthen food security,"
"It is truly an honour to be back with WFP and continue supporting the school meals programme," said Ms. KC. "We all know that learning is hard when children are hungry. When we provide them with proper nutrition, we are not only securing their food, but also their bright future".
KC Concepcion is a multi-awarded Filipino actress, television host, jewelry designer, entrepreneur and humanitarian. She joins a distinguished roster of global ambassadors, including Kate Hudson, Michael Kors, and Son Heung-Min-who lend their voices to WFP's mission to end global hunger.
WFP is working closely with the Philippine Government to scale up home-grown school feeding, which provides daily meals using ingredients sourced from local farmers. In 2024, the programme reached 5,000 schoolchildren and linked 1,800 smallholder farmers to schools.
This year, the Government and WFP aim to reach 16,000 learners - 10,000 in BARMM and 6,000 in Luzon - while engaging up to 6,000 smallholder farmers. WFP will continue providing technical assistance to support national and regional governments to further expand these efforts.
