The Albanese Government is investing $1.84 million to add more trees, tackle urban heat and support local native threatened species, in Perth's outer southern suburbs.

The commitment, made by the Albanese Labor Government during the 2025 election campaign, will help address the impacts of urban heat across the City of Kwinana, while enhancing biodiversity and habitat connectivity, especially for the endangered Black Cockatoo.

The project will be led by the City of Kwinana Council, and includes increasing tree canopy cover, with a goal of 1,800 new trees to be planted as part of the City's broader Urban Forest Strategy.

Works will centre around local parks, streetscapes, and public open spaces, making areas more welcoming and user-friendly, especially in summer.

The funding is part of the Australian Government's Local Environmental Projects Program that is protecting and improving our environment and heritage.
