- Distinguished public servant Michael Barnes appointed as Western Power Deputy Chair
- Eleven years' experience as State's Under Treasurer
- Western Power to play a pivotal role in WA's clean energy transition
Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson today announced a key appointment to the board of Western Power.
Former Under Treasurer and distinguished public servant Mr Michael Barnes has been appointed as the utility's Deputy Chair.
Mr Barnes' 11 years' experience as the State's Under Treasurer makes him uniquely placed to drive Western Power through this critical period in the State's energy transition.
Western Power operates the network that delivers electricity to users and is a critical enabler of new renewable energy generation and economic development.
Owned by the people of Western Australia, investment in the Western Power network will be central to the State's transition to renewable energy and the delivery of the Cook Government's Made in WA plan.
The Minister also thanked long-standing board member Eva Skira for her service to Western Power. Ms Skira left the board at the end of her final term.
As stated by Energy and Decarbonisation Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:
"I congratulate Michael Barnes on his appointment to the Western Power Board.
"After many years as Under Treasurer, I am pleased that Western Power will be able to harness his valuable experience as it navigates the clean energy transition.
"Western Power has a critical role to play in making WA a clean energy powerhouse and I am confident that Michael's leadership will help drive us towards achieving our Made in WA plan.
"I would also like to thank Eva Skira for her contribution to the organisation over many years."
