Kicking goals for reconciliation

A local football club is taking to the field to promote reconciliation through sport, design and community spirit. Moorabbin Kangaroos Football Club in Hampton East, who compete in the Southern Football League, will proudly wear their very first customised Indigenous jumper when the seniors and reserves take the field on 5 August.

The jumper was designed by Waradgerie artist Carmal Mullins, whose husband Jono plays for the Kangaroos. The design uses Waradgerie symbols and markings and uses lines moving upwards to signify success, growth and strength. Club president Muhammed Kiki said the club was proud to celebrate their commitment to amplifying the voices, stories and traditions of First Nations peoples.

"The Jumper stands as a tangible testament to the enduring spirit of collaboration, inclusivity, and cultural appreciation, reminding us of the profound importance of acknowledging and celebrating the Indigenous roots that form an integral part of our identity," said Mr Kiki.
