The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) begins the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) Meeting scheduled to be held in the next four days until March 31, 2022. The first round of the ACWG meeting will be attended by all G20 member delegates and participating groups.
Deputy Chairperson of the KPK Lili Pintauli Siregar said that with the opening of the first meeting today marked the start of discussions on efforts to eradicate corruption by G20 member countries.
"Today, the meeting will focus on discussing the issue of Increasing the Role of Audit in Corruption Eradication, which we will promote to the High Level Principles (HLP) in efforts to eradicate global corruption," said Lili.
KPK Deputy for Information and Data Mochamad Hadiyana as Chair of the Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) explained further that audit is a central element in the accountability and integrity systems. Therefore, audit institutions, accountants, and private auditors play a key role in preventing and eradicating corruption.
Hadiyana also explained that the discussion could later encourage the empowerment of public and private sector audit bodies to fight corruption effectively; strengthen the role and capacity of public sector audit bodies and internal auditors to identify, prevent and, where appropriate, investigate corruption; encourage the private audit profession to play an active role in identifying, preventing, and reporting corruption; develop of a strong framework for following up and implementing audit findings related to corruption; strengthen cooperation between auditing bodies, internal audit, anti-corruption/law enforcement institutions and other related institutions in corruption eradication; and promote the use of information and communication technology to enhance the role of audit, including transparency and accountability in managing public finances.
As co-chair of the G20 ACWG, Director of ASEAN Political and Security Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Rolliansyah Soemirat said that this meeting will not only be attended by delegates from G20 participants, but also participating groups, namely B20, C20, T20, L20, and P20.
Rolliansyah explained that the first day's meeting will hold four sessions, with panellists from the Indonesian Presidency which will be represented by the KPK, delegates from the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Australia. Other panellists include the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC),
Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Australia Accountability Lab, as well as representatives from participating groups B20, C20, T20, L20, and P20.
"We invite G20 members to play an active role in taking advantage of the momentum during the 4 days of the first round of the ACWG meeting in the G20 Indonesian Presidency, so that it can run effectively and produce agreements regarding efforts to eradicate corruption globally," concluded Lili.
