KidSport Program Welcomes Scouts And Girl Guides

  • From July 2025 KidSport vouchers can be used at WA Girl Guides and Scouts clubs
  • KidSport children will benefit from more choice of activities
  • WA Government committed to reducing cost barriers to ensure more WA kids can stay more active more often

The Western Australian Government's KidSport program will now include Girl Guides and Scouts clubs, giving eligible children throughout Western Australia more choice in how they stay active and connected.

Programs like Scouts and Girl Guides provide young people with opportunities to build leadership and resilience, and establish friendships - essential qualities that support growth well beyond childhood.

From 1 July 2025, eligible families will be able to use their KidSport vouchers to cover registration fees for Scouts and Girl Guides, in addition to local sporting clubs.

The move recognises the vital role of organisations like Scouts WA and Girl Guides WA in supporting youth development, outdoor education and inclusive participation across Western Australia.

It also ensures more choice for KidSport families, especially in areas with limited community sport options.

KidSport now offers access to 69 different activities across more than 2,000 approved clubs throughout WA. Families can apply for up to $300 per eligible child each calendar year, which can go towards club fees and essential equipment and uniforms.

As stated by Treasurer and Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"The targeted KidSport program will continue to provide support to families who need it most through the $300 voucher scheme which we doubled from $150 as recently as 2023.

"Since the one-off further increase to the program last year, in 2025-26, the eligibility will be expanded to meet the demand of more eligible groups.

"For the first time, eligible families with kids participating in Girl Guides and Scouts will be able to access the KidSport program. This is an important way of expanding the scheme to support more families and ensure more kids can participate in community sport and recreation.

"The KidSport voucher program is just one example of how the Cook Government is helping families with cost-of-living pressures.

"The WA Government is delivering a range of targeted support measures to help relieve cost-of-living pressures for Western Australians who need it most, and has invested $963 million in cost-of-living support measures, which is an additional $200 million into targeted cost-of-living measures in the 2025-26 State budget, compared to the last State Budget."

As stated by Youth Minister Hannah Beazley:

"Girl Guides and Scouts do incredibly important work to support young people to develop their life and leadership skills, and to connect and contribute to their local communities.

"Expanding KidSport to include these programs will ensure more young people have the opportunity to participate and achieve their potential."

As stated by Scouts WA Chief Commissioner Ayden Mackenzie JP:

"Scouts WA is committed to the education of young people and giving them the building blocks they need to achieve their goals.

"We're proud to be part of a growing network of programs supported by KidSport, and I'm excited to welcome even more young people into our scout halls."

As stated by Girl Guides WA Executive Officer Ghylne Palmer:

"By making Guiding more accessible, programs like KidSport ensure that all girls, regardless of their economic background, can participate and benefit from enriching experiences.

"Girl Guides offers valuable opportunities for skill development in leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving, which are essential for future success.

"We welcome the WA Government's decision to include Girl Guides in KidSport and look forward to seeing more girls join our Guiding community."
