King Tide To Impact Low-lying Suburbs This Week

Residents in low lying areas of Townsville have been urged to prepare for potential flooding as higher-than-average tides are predicted over the next few days.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned tides of more than 3.7m will start on Thursday 7 March to Tuesday 12 March, reaching a high of 4.18m on Sunday 10 March.

Sunday's king tide is expected to be the highest for the season.

Council recommends residents in areas prone to flooding when king tides occur take necessary precautions, including moving items to higher ground where possible.

Areas likely to be impacted include Railway Estate, South Townsville, Hanran Street and Ogden Street.

Motorists are asked to observe any warnings and road closures.
