It was a pleasure to welcome representatives from the Town of Mosman Park to our WRAP Working Group meeting last week.
The working group, tasked with implementing the Walyalup Reconciliation Action Plan meets every three months to discuss issues relating to communities and people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, provide advice upon invitation from the City and guide the WRAP.
The group consists of 10 Aboriginal elders and representatives, 4 representatives from relevant organisations, 2 community members, 4 Elected Members and 7 City staff members, with two new members Joe Collard and Ivan Lyndon welcomed to the group this year.
Topics of discussion included: an idea to pay tribute to Dr Gerrard Shaw at Piazza Fremantle, an update on the Noongar Standard Heritage Agreement, an update on the Hilton Park cultural shelter roof art and the FOCUS First Nations Film programming.
The CEO of the Town of Mosman Park, Natalie Martin Goode, was invited to attend the meeting to see the working group in action.
The Town of Mosman Park thanked the City of Fremantle for welcoming them to the Reconciliation Working Group meeting, describing it as a valuable opportunity to learn directly from the City, the Elders and the working group.
The Town of Mosman Park is developing its second Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan which represents the Town's continued commitment to strengthening relationships, respect and opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The experience with the City will help guide the Town's own reconciliation journey, including the development of a First Nations film series and storytelling program at Camelot, which will be shaped and led by Elders.
