One of the largest annual events on the Knox events calendar is back with the return of the Stringybark Festival on Sunday 16 October in Rowville.
Stringybark is a free community event celebrating homegrown creativity, sustainability and all things local.
The program runs from 10am-4pm, and will feature local gardening, sustainability and arts workshops, colourful stage programs, a maker's market, cooking presentations and children's activities.
In keeping with the sustainability theme, Council will this year be using the services of Green My Plate to eliminate single-use food packaging from events by providing our festival vendors with reusable plates and bowls.
Festivalgoers will be able to put their plates and bowls from food vendors into a 'pink bin' on the day so that they can be washed and reused.
Knox Mayor Cr Susan Laukens said it was exciting to be able to come together again as a community.
"Stringybark Festival is a much-loved community event that has been running for over 30 years here in Knox," she said.
"I invite everyone to come along and celebrate the creative, natural and playful offerings of our backyard.
"It's the first time since 2019 that the festival is back in person. It's great to be able to come together as a community again after having to hold the last two festivals online due to the pandemic.
"I'm looking forward to everyone taking part in this fun and interactive program, with lots of activities for the whole family."
Festival sponsor Stud Park Shopping Centre will host creative arts play for children the weekend prior to Stringybark Festival, Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October.
Stringybark Festival is on Sunday 16 October from 10am-4pm at the Rowville Community Centre, 40 Fulham Road, Rowville, and surrounding parkland. For more information, visit knox.vic.gov.au/stringybark.
