Kyabram Northern Oval projects - Campaspe Shire Council

Council will provide project management to support sportsground and storage facility works at Kyabram Northern Oval being delivered by user groups of the reserve.

Installation of goal nets

This project involves St Augustine's Junior Football Club funding the installation of nets behind the goal posts at each end of the Northern Oval.

Major renewal and upgrade works were undertaken at the grounds in 2016 in consultation with the committee of management, which consists of oval user groups. However, upon completion, St Augustine's Junior Football Club expressed concern about the orientation of the oval and the goal ends being located in close proximity to Tisdall Road.

They were concerned for the safety of players having to retrieve balls kicked out of the reserve and landing in the neighbouring property or Tisdall Road.

Although nets behind goal posts is not consistent with council service criteria or AFL recommendations, council has agreed to allow installation of the nets, on the basis that it is considered a restriction to the full use of the reserve by the user group, and owing to the club's commitment to pay all capital and ongoing costs relating to the nets.

Renovation and extension of oval storage facility

This project involves user groups funding the renovation and fit out of the existing brick storage shed at the Northern Oval.

Although originally requesting a new storage shed, following an inspection of facilities by council officers and user groups reviewing items needing to be stored on site, it was agreed by all parties that there was significant potential to rationalise the existing storage space. This is supplemented by store rooms inside the main pavilion.

Works will include renovation of the existing brick storage shed, including a clean-up, some repairs and installation of shelving, to store requisite items of all user groups. A skillion will also be added to extend the size of the brick shed, making it possible to securely house machinery such as mowers and rollers, undercover.

This outcome will provide a greater amount of storage space than the original request for a new shed.
