Labor backs Incat

Tasmanian Labor
  • Labor will match loan commitment
  • New apprentice numbers welcomed
  • Assistance will help Incat rebound strongly
  • A Majority Labor Government will match the commitment to provide Incat with a $100 million loan to build a new vessel to secure its workforce and create jobs.

Tasmanian Labor Leader, Rebecca White, today congratulated Incat on its commitment to train 60 new apprentices as part of its overall plan to expand the workforce by 150.

"Labor is a strong supporter of Incat and we want to give the company and its workforce certainty that whoever wins the election on May 1, their future is secure," Ms White said.

"We recognise that the pandemic has created short term uncertainty for Incat's business but that demand for new vessels is expected to rebound strongly as the global economy continues to recover.

"Labor supports providing a commercial loan facility to allow Incat to maintain its current workforce and create new jobs in the construction of a new vessel.

"Peter Gutwein strung Incat along with his broken promise to build new Spirit of Tasmania vessels locally. Quite frankly, this is the least he can do to support the company."
