Labor Commitment To Enhance Harley Hammond Reserve

Mitchell Shire Council has welcomed an election commitment from Labor Candidate for Nicholls Kim Travers and Senator for Victoria Jana Stewart, who have announced $580,000 in funding for essential upgrades at Harley Hammond Reserve in Broadford.

This funding will go towards delivering much-needed improvements to the reserve's facilities, ensuring they are safer, more inclusive, and accessible for the whole community, particularly women and girls.

Harley Hammond Reserve is more than just a local sporting facility; it plays an integral role in the community's resilience as a designated Bushfire Place of Last Resort.

This vital function underscores the need for ongoing improvements to the reserve, ensuring it remains a safe, functional, and supportive space when the community needs it most.

The proposed upgrades include the creation of female-friendly change rooms, dedicated umpire facilities, and enhanced social spaces.

These improvements will provide local sporting clubs and groups with the necessary infrastructure to support female participation and encourage inclusivity in regional Victoria.

Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor John Dougall expressed the Council's support for the upgrades, recognising the importance of enhancing the facilities at Harley Hammond Reserve.

"We are very grateful to see Labor backing this crucial project. The upgrades will ensure that Broadford's sporting facilities meet modern standards and continue to serve the community, providing a safe, inclusive space for all," he said.

"Harley Hammond Reserve has long been an essential space for our community. These upgrades will enhance its versatility, making sure it continues to serve both recreational and safety needs, particularly in times of crisis.

"This project is a step in the right direction towards equal sporting opportunities for women and girls. It's essential that we continue to create environments that are welcoming, inclusive, and accessible to all members of our community."
