Labor Failing On Social Housing

Liberal Party Victoria
The Jacinta Allan Labor Government is failing to deliver the homes for the homeless it promised.

The latest Victorian Housing Register published by Homes Victoria has revealed the waiting list for a home in Victoria has reached a new record High.

The total number of Victorians on Housing Register waiting lists is 66,881.

New priority applications surged to 30,899 (+10.4 per cent YoY), now almost 55 per cent of the total.

New applicants aged 55+ are one of the fastest-growing groups, with elderly singles up 13.3 per cent since last year.

The Labor Government has spent $4.5 Billion dollars over the last five years and delivered a net decrease of 423 public bedrooms.

The Allan Government has also failed to reach its private housing targets of 80,000 homes a year.

Shadow Minister for Housing and Planning Richard Riordan said:

"Since the Labor Government told Victorians in 2020 it was going to fix the social housing crisis the waiting list has grown longer and longer.

"Our most vulnerable Victorians deserve an explanation as well as an urgent response.

"Labor has allowed corruption to run rampant on its Big Build sites which has caused delays and cost blowouts and now Victorians are paying the price."
