Labor Is Giving Education Workers Payrise

VIC Premier

Teachers, principals and education support staff do some of the most important work in our state.

They show up every day for our kids and they deserve a pay rise that values their work.

This agreement delivers this. It makes Victorian teachers the best paid in Australia - with the best conditions.

It recognises that great public education starts with valuing the people who deliver it.

It also gives them back what matters just as much as pay: time. Time to plan lessons properly. Time to support students who need it most. Time to do the job they came into teaching to do.

Teachers, principals and education support staff have earned this - with Victorian students having the best NAPLAN results in the nation again this year.

The in-principle Victorian Government Schools Agreement includes:

  • A pay increase of between 28.3 per cent and 32.4 per cent for teachers, assistant principals and principals over four years
  • An experienced teacher's salary rising from $118,063 to $151,419 by 2029, including a $15,393 boost this year to put them ahead of their NSW counterparts
  • An early career teacher pay increase of $12,343 by October 2026, bringing them into line with NSW
  • A minimum pay increase of 29.8 per cent over four years for Range 2 education support staff, including classroom support, administrative staff and those supporting students with disability
  • A halving of meeting hours, from 80 to 40 a year, to give staff more time for planning, preparation and assessment.

The agreement will now go to members for formal endorsement.

Because when we back our educators, we back every student in every public school across Victoria.

Victoria is the Education State and this agreement locks that in.
