Labor Is Making It Easier To Get To Grand Prix

VIC Premier

Formula 1 fans will have more ways than ever to get to the Australian Grand Prix this year.

For the first time, racegoers will be able to access the circuit directly from the brand-new Anzac Station, located only a short walk to the circuit.

More than 130 extra train services and 5,000 additional trams will operate from Thursday, 5 March to Sunday, 8 March, helping move up to 500,000 fans to and from the event - including dedicated Grand Prix express trams.

Event tickets include free public transport from the CBD, with free trams to Albert Park and free train travel between Town Hall, State Library and Anzac stations.

Extra trains will run across the network on Sunday morning, halving wait times for Grand Prix crowds and regular passengers, while late-night services will operate until 1:30am, so fans can celebrate and still get home safely.

Trams from Southern Cross Station will serve Gates 1 and 2, while a new tram corridor from Flagstaff Station via William Street will run to Gate 3.

Trams from Flinders Street and Town Hall Station will operate to Gates 8, 9 and 10, supported by additional buses running from Friday to Sunday between Crown Casino and Gates 1, 2 and 3.

Regular bus routes 606, 246, 600, 922 and 923 will also continue to service the area.

Rideshare and taxi drop-off and pick-up zones will be available on Canterbury Road, Albert Road, St Kilda Road and Fitzroy Street.

Lakeside Drive and surrounding Albert Park roads will be closed, with additional restrictions on Spencer Street, Bourke Street and St Kilda Road to prioritise pedestrian and tram safety - with extra congestion expected on Kings Way.

Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead using Journey Planner at transport.vic.gov.au.
