Labor offers no solution to Southern Outlet traffic congestion

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

Labor has been exposed for its ignorance of the integrated traffic solution for the Southern Outlet in an embarrassing performance by Clark MP Ella Haddad.

Ms Haddad told Parliament today that the Government's plans did not address the "bottleneck'' at the bottom of the Southern Outlet.

In her haste for a headline, Ms Haddad demonstrated she is unaware of the extra transit lane through the intersection with Davey and Macquarie Streets and down Macquarie Street.

She also demonstrated her ignorance of the 70 extra bus services that have been commissioned to use the transit lane dedicated to public transport and multi-occupancy private vehicles.

Importantly, lazy Labor demonstrated that it has no solution whatsoever to the existing logjams on the Southern Outlet, let alone a plan for future population growth in the Kingborough and Huon LGAs.

Ms Haddad has also wilfully exaggerated the number of properties impacted by the infrastructure solution and, perversely, is now opposed to negotiated settlements with property owners who wish to settle individually and confidentially with the Government.

Ms Haddad should apologise to Parliament for her woeful lack of research and to the residents of Dynnyrne Road for the unnecessary false alarms she has generated about compulsory acquisitions.
