Labor Party Rules Quiz

Which of these rules are enforced by Rebecca White, and which aren’t?

"All members of the Party are bound by these Rules, as amended from time to time." – Labor Party Tasmanian Branch rules, p.5

"All political appointments to electorate or ministerial offices of State and Federal members of the Parliamentary Labor Party must be members of the Party, and a financial member of the relevant Union." – Labor Party rules, p.10

"We also have very clear party rules that say we can’t do deals with minority parties." – Rebecca White, ABC Mornings 20/3/17

On one hand, Ms White relied on the Party Rules to claim that Labor wouldn’t do any deals with the Greens. On the other, Labor are claiming Ms White is free to ignore Party Rules. Only one of these statements can be true.

It’s clear from her silence in Question Time today that the Opposition Leader has no explanation for why Labor rules require payment to be made to Unions and the Labor Party in order to be considered for a taxpayer-funded job.
