As Victoria's financial crisis worsens under a decade of Labor, Victoria's most vulnerable are again being let down by a government which simply cannot build homes.
Despite nearly $4.7 billion dollars being spent over the past four years, Labor admits it will not be helping one extra Victorian in need.
Worse still, Labor has flagged cuts to homeless and community housing services so by the end of 2025 the total number of social homes available will in fact decrease from a target of 91,248 to a new 2025 target of 91,148.
This year's budget Performance Statements are shocking reading for Victorians desperate for somewhere to call home. Families escaping domestic violence and in desperate need of a home are now expected to wait nearly two years, which is more than double Labor's broken promise of a ten-month wait.
Shadow Minister for Housing, Richard Riordan, said: "The Allan Labor Government can no longer meet the needs and expectations of homeless Victorians. Theyhave mucked about for four years and have wasted almost $5 billion dollars with nothing to show for it.
"Victorians paying their taxes expect to see outcomes for a $4.7 billion dollar spend. No one wants to see so little delivered for such a massive outlay, yet Labor seems easily prepared to put up a white flag on the housing crisis they created.
"As debt hits a record high, homeless Victorians will continue to miss out as a result of Labor's financial mismanagement."
