Labor's fearmongering goes overboard

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

The majority of the work undertaken to date on the new Spirit of Tasmania vessels by TT-Line and their expert consultants is transferrable and can be utilised in the detailed design phase and contract negotiations with the new shipbuilding.

Labor knows this and yet they continue to mislead and try to scare Tasmanians for the sake of a cheap headline.

Importantly, no payments have been made to FSG and no payments will be made.

The Spirit of Tasmania ships are a great success story for our state, and while Labor delights in talking them down, I would again like to commend TT-Line Board and Management for its prudent and responsible management of this significant investment.

Our plan to deliver more passengers and lower fares has been phenomenally successful, and we look forward to welcoming the two new ships well within the 2028 timeframe.

The current Spirit of Tasmania ships continue to operate safely and efficiently, and are already emissions compliant as was required by 2020.

Labor should focus more on bringing some actual ideas to Parliament, rather than their one measly un-costed idea and their lazy politicking.
