Labor welcomes Metro transit officers, but job's not done

Tasmanian Labor

Labor welcomes the reintroduction of transit officers on Metro buses, but the Liberals still have a long way to go to fix Tasmania's public transport system - which remains crippled by massive daily cancellations.

It's in Labor's DNA to support workers and we've been calling for the introduction of transit officers for months now.

We are glad the Government has finally listened to drivers' concerns, but it is disappointing that it took multiple news stories and consistent bad publicity for action to be taken.

The Government now must make sure that transit officers are trained and deployed immediately, and in numbers that will make a difference to the working conditions of drivers.

Labor advocated for drivers and passengers while the Government was ignoring them, and we won't stop advocating for drivers and passengers until mass resignations and triple-figure service cancellations stop being the norm.
