Labor Will Pay Our Teachers Best In Country

VIC Premier

Labor is making our hardworking teachers, school leaders and education staff the best paid in the country.

They've earned it.

Teacher and principal salaries will rise by at least 28.3 per cent over the next four years starting with an increase of 12 per cent by October 2026.

More than 90,000 full-time teachers will earn over $1,000 more per month by October this year and almost $3,000 more per month by 2030.

It means graduates and experienced teachers in Victoria will soon earn more than New South Wales.

Our dedicated Education Support Staff will see similar pay rises to teachers over the next four years, including allowances.

The agreement recognises the significant value and expertise Education Support Staff bring to our classrooms, with all Education Support Staff accessing allowances and the introduction of qualification requirements for higher salary classifications.

In addition to nation-leading pay rises, time-off-in-lieu arrangements for camps have been reformed, making administration easier for school leaders.

This will now include an overnight payment for camps plus increased allowances for specialist school staff.

Kindergarten teachers and educators will also receive a significant boost to wages and conditions following a new offer for kinder enterprise agreements to be funded by the Victorian Government.

Early childhood teachers will reach wage parity with Victorian Government school teachers for the first time, based on a 28.3 per cent increase over four years.

Kinder educators will receive an average pay increase of 39 per cent over four years. This significant increase for early childhood educators incorporates the Fair Work Commission's recent Gender Undervaluation decision.

Other improvements to pay and conditions include removal of existing barriers to teacher wage progression, new educational leader and service leader allowances, and new leave provisions to align with government schools.

We have said all along that we would deliver nationally competitive wages and conditions for Victorian school staff - and that is exactly what this does.

Jess Wilson wants to cut 1 in 7 public service jobs, the workers that support our schools, hospitals and kinders.

She needs to come clean - will she support our teachers and schools or cut the jobs that support them?

As stated by Premier Jacinta Allan

"We've always said our public school educators deserve a pay rise - that is what we're delivering."

"Our teachers, school leaders and education support staff show up every day and this is about saying thank you."

As stated by Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll

"Our children deserve the best teachers. Our society demands it."

"This reflects the important work our educators do every day teaching and shaping our youngest Victorians."

As stated by Minister for Children Lizzie Blandthorn

"Early childhood teachers and educators are critical to our children's learning and development."

"The Victorian Government has funded a settlement outcome that will deliver significant improvements to pay and conditions - for the first time our early childhood workforce will have equal pay to school teachers and staff."
