Labor would send Tasmania into unsustainable net debt

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Finance

Net debt would be at least $1.8 billion by 2022-23 under Labor's policy promises.

While Labor is too lazy to prepare an alternative budget, it is clear from the limited information that is available on their policies, and the costings associated with them, that they would wreak havoc on the State Budget. Yet, at the same time, Rebecca White thinks we should be spending less on the vital job creating infrastructure our growing state needs.

The conservative estimate of $1.8 billion net debt by 2022-23 under Labor doesn't even include a raft of policy promises they made at the last state election that remain on the Labor website as commitments.

For all David O'Byrne's misinformed griping about the Government's sensible management of the Budget, it is Labor that would actually send the Budget into an unsustainable level of net debt.

How does Labor plan to fund its promises, including the elimination of the Agency Efficiency Dividend of $303 million?

Tasmanians remember the Labor-Green Government driving the state's economy deep into recession.

The fact is, Labor has absolutely no economic credibility and until they put forward a fully costed alternative Budget, they cannot criticise our Budget.
