New data released by the Productivity Commission has confirmed Victoria's public housing stock has increased by just 36 dwellings over the past decade from 64,241 to 64,277.
Furthermore, the data has also confirmed:
- The median wait time for public housing in Victoria is 10 months, 3 times longer than NSW.
- Only 59.2 per cent of public housing tenants are satisfied in Victoria, the lowest rate in Australia.
- Victoria spends $127.91 per person on social housing - the lowest level of any mainland state.
Under Labor, Victoria has the highest property taxes in the nation as net debt continues to climb by $1.7 million an hour and is expected to reach a record $192.6 billion by 2028-29.
Shadow Minister for Housing and Building, David Southwick, said: "This data confirms Labor's decade of failure on public housing.
"With just 36 additional public housing dwellings added in Victoria over the past 10 years, it is clear Labor has failed vulnerable Victorians.
"Under Labor, Victoria has the lowest social housing tenant satisfaction, wait times triple those of NSW and spends less on this vital service than any other mainland state.
"Labor cannot manage money, cannot manage housing and Victorians are paying the price."
