Labor's Dodgy Land Tax Deal

Liberal Tasmania
  • Michael Ferguson Deputy Premier, Treasurer, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Minister for Planning, Member for Bass
  • Labor's attempt to lock homeowners into a 30-year commitment in return for land tax relief is dodgy, dangerous and quite possibly illegal.

Labor should be aware of the pitfalls of demanding binding commitments across multiple future terms of government.

Labor's former Deputy Premier Bryan Green learnt that painful lesson more than 10 years ago.

It's simply ludicrous to lock in these provisions across a three decade timeframe.

Let's not forget that Labor announced a shack exemption from land tax and then reversed it a year later. Labor simply can't be trusted on land tax.

A re-elected majority Liberal Government will deliver real land tax relief right now, not across the never-never.
