Labor's Jobs Slump Hits NSW Families And Businesses

The NSW unemployment rate has risen to 4.7 per cent in September, its highest level in five years, in a bitter blow to NSW families.

The jump from 4.0 per cent in June comes as 44,000 fewer people have jobs in NSW than three months ago.

The data follows an increase in the number of insolvencies as businesses are pushed to the wall by taxes, charges and costs under the Minns Albanese Government.

Shadow Treasurer Scott Farlow said state and federal Labor had delivered the same result for working families: higher costs, higher taxes and less job security.

"Families are already struggling to pay the bills. Now more are facing the frightening prospect of doing it without a pay cheque," Mr Farlow said.

"When the NSW Liberals and Nationals left government, NSW had the lowest unemployment rate of any state. Our state has also gone from the top to the bottom when it comes to growth."

"Labor's answer to rising unemployment is to hit more businesses with more tax. Every year, bracket creep pushes around 1,200 additional NSW businesses into payroll tax. That is a tax on jobs, and we are now seeing the consequences."

"The Liberals and Nationals will cut the tax on jobs, back small and family businesses and give NSW families the security they deserve."

Today's Australian Bureau of Statistics data follows the International Monetary Fund warning that Australia faces the biggest increase in unemployment in the developed world.
