Lagoon Reserve Redevelopment Wins Top Engineering Award

City of Port Phillip
City of Port Phillip is proud to announce that the Lagoon Reserve Sports Field Redevelopment has been awarded the Engineering Excellence Award by the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) in the Public Works Project under $2 million category.

This exciting recognition celebrates the transformation of Lagoon Reserve - one of our community's most cherished open spaces. In October 2024, Council unveiled a revitalised sports field that has since become a vibrant hub for local sports clubs, families, and recreational users.

Previously plagued by poor soil quality, uneven surfaces, and inadequate drainage, the reserve was in dire need of attention. The upgrade delivered a complete reconstruction of the sports field oval, state-of-the-art drainage, new cricket nets, and modern lighting - ensuring the space is now safe, accessible, and playable all year round.

This award is a testament to Council's commitment to enhancing community wellbeing through thoughtful, sustainable infrastructure. The project not only improves access to sport and recreation but also strengthens the social fabric of our neighbourhoods.

We thank our dedicated project team, contractors, and community members who contributed to this success. Together, we've created a space that will serve generations to come.
