Lake Albert Road Stage 2 upgrade to start

The second stage towards the complete resurfacing of one of Wagga Wagga's main arterial roads will start next weekend.

Wagga Wagga City Council will begin Stage 2 of renewing Lake Albert Road's surface with works between Stanley Street and Kooringal Road starting on Sunday 10 November.

It will take 13 night shifts to complete, weather permitting. Works hours will take place between 6pm and 6am.

Council's Director Commercial Operations Caroline Angel said this major work is part of an ongoing program to rehabilitate and maintain the extensive local road network.

"This stage of asphalt pavement rehabilitation is the second in a planned multi-staged approach towards upgrading Lake Albert Road," Ms Angel said.

"Council has an extensive list of road upgrades scheduled in this year's budget. We are working through that list and achieving success.

"Lake Albert Road has been identified as a priority. Work will start on the second stage of a multi-staged project with a focus on renewing the entire surface of this road."

Stage 1 of Lake Albert Road was completed in December last year with the section of road between Fay Avenue and Lord Baden Powell Drive

To minimise inconvenience to surrounding residents and local traffic, and for the safety of construction staff, the roadworks will again be undertaken at night via partial and complete road closures of Lake Albert Road.

Council Operations Manager Sylvester Otieno advised there will be detours in place and access to some residences will be affected at certain stages of the work.

"Vehicle access to properties will not be available to residents when the works area is located directly in front of their premises," Mr Otieno said.

"If residents require use of their vehicle during the construction period, it is recommended vehicles are parked further along Lake Albert Road outside the work area.

"There will be noise associated with this work, but every effort will be made to minimise the impact on residents."

Mr Otieno said residents will be provided updated correspondence regarding the project as construction work progresses.
